Before Your Session

What is included in my session/package?
Your session includes everything you need for a relaxed, guided photography experience--- from planning your session and choosing the right location to professional editing and delivery of your final gallery.
I’ll guide you through the entire process so you’re never left wondering what to do next. Your package includes anywhere from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours, 25 to 50+ images, and a private online gallery of your professionally retouched images (that you chose yourself in a proofing gallery!).
Additional images are also available if you fall in love with more than your package includes.
How far in advance should I book?
I recommend booking 3 to 5 weeks in advance whenever possible, especially for weekends and popular seasons.
That said, I know life doesn't always work that way! If you need photos sooner, feel free to reach out. I'll always do my best to find a date that works for you.
For seniors, I recommend reaching out even earlier if you have a specific season, location, or date in mind.
What happens after I book?
Once you're booked (aka the retainer has been confirmed and forwarded), I'll take care of the details with you.
You'll receive everything you need to prepare for your session, including guidance on what to wear, what to expect, and any location details. We'll make sure we're on the same page before your session so you can simply show up and enjoy the experience.
During your session, I'll guide you through posing and prompts so you don't have to worry about what to do in front of the camera.
Afterward, I'll professionally edit your images and deliver your final gallery within my standard turnaround time.
My goal is for the process to feel easy from start to finish (remember, I love communication so you will always be up to date!!)
What should I wear?
Wear something that makes you feel confident and comfortable.
I'll provide guidance to help you choose outfits that photograph beautifully and coordinate well with your location and the people you're being photographed with (with your comfort in mind of course!).
For couples and families, I recommend coordinating rather than perfectly matching. For seniors and individual portraits, we can also plan multiple outfits to give your gallery variety.
And if you're stuck between a few options, don't stress! I’m happy to help you decide!
Who covers location permits?
I will include the cost of permits in your invoice, but I will handle everything from inquiries to communication with the location owners!
What is your cancellation/rescheduling policy?
I understand that things happen, so if you need to reschedule, just reach out as soon as you know.
I'll work with you to find another available date whenever possible. My goal is to make the process straightforward while also respecting the time I've reserved specifically for your session.
Retainers will not be refunded due to cancellation or scheduling conflicts. Cancellations must be made within at least 24 hours before the session, and I must be alerted to your need to reschedule as soon as possible.
Can I request specific photos or poses?
Absolutely! If you have a specific photo, pose, or idea in mind, feel free to share it with me before or during your session. I love incorporating ideas that feel personal to you.
At the same time, you don't need to come prepared with a list of poses. I'll guide you throughout your session and use prompts, movement, and different angles to create a variety of natural images.
Think of it as a collaboration: you bring your ideas and personality, and I'll bring the experience and direction to make it all come together.
What if I've never had professional photos taken before?
That's completely okay! You don't need any experience in front of the camera to have a great session.
Most of my clients aren't professional models, and I don't expect you to know how to pose or what to do. I'll guide you throughout your session with simple prompts and direction so you always know what to do.
My goal isn't to make you feel like you're posing for a photo. It's to help you relax, feel confident, and have fun so your personality comes through naturally. I'll prompt you, and show you exactly what to do with your hands and feet.
All you have to do is show up as yourself. I'll take care of the rest.

During Your Sessoin

Where do sessions take place?
Sessions can take place at a variety of locations depending on the look and feel you're going for.
If you already have a favorite spot, I'm happy to consider it. If you don't know where you want to go, that's completely okay! I can recommend locations that work well for your session and help you choose the right setting for the style you're envisioning.
We'll choose a location that feels like you and gives us plenty of opportunities for beautiful, varied images.
Do you help with posing? What if I'm awkward in front of the camera?
Yes I do!! Honestly, most people feel a little awkward at first! (even though I'm a photographer, I'm not confident in front of the camera either... my mind always blanks when I need to pose myself)
You don't need to know how to pose, where to put your hands, or what to do with your face cause that's my job!
Rather than putting you into stiff poses and expecting you to hold them, I'll guide you with natural prompts, movement, and simple direction throughout your session.
My goal is for you to feel comfortable, have fun, and actually enjoy being photographed.
You just have to show up. I'll take care of the rest!!
What happens if the weather is bad?
If we're scheduled for an outdoor session and the weather isn't cooperating, we'll keep an eye on the forecast and communicate about the best option.
If conditions aren't ideal for beautiful or comfortable photos, we'll work together to reschedule your session for a better day.
You won't have to wonder what to do or make that decision alone. I'll keep you updated and help make the process as easy as possible.
When is the best time of day for photos?
Golden hour aka the hour or two before sunset is most commonly known as the "best light" for photos. Though golden hour is GORGEOUS, morning light is also beautiful, and afternoon light is stunning. Sunrise photos are perfect for couples and grads and portraits for individuals, mid-morning such as 9:30 AM is perfect for families with children: the kids have gotten a night's sleep, it's not even close to bedtime, so they'll have the energy and hopefully the smiles for photos! Afternoon such as 4 or 5 PM is great for even, clear lighting, and evening light such as golden hour or sunset is perfect for couples, grads, portraits for individuals, and families with older children.

After Your Session

How many photos will I receive?
The number of images you'll receive depends on the package you choose. Each package includes a set number of professionally retouched images, and you'll have the option to purchase additional favorites if you end up loving more than what's included.
And don't worry! You won't have to choose your favorites without seeing them first. You'll receive your gallery so you can look through your images and select the ones you love.
How long does it take to receive my photos?
My standard turnaround time is 3 weeks.
I take the time to cull the photos straight out of the camera, apply my base edit and send the photos in a Proofing Gallery to you for you to carefully select your favorites, and professionally retouch your images so your final gallery feels polished and cohesive, not rushed.
Need your photos sooner? A 3-day expedited turnaround is available for $175, subject to availability.
What happens if I don't like my photos?
My goal is for you to love your images, and that's why I put so much thought into the experience before, during, and after your session. I'll guide you through posing, lighting, and expression so you feel confident in front of the camera. I also send the original gallery to you to choose your favorites and then retouch your final images to make sure your gallery is cohesive and polished. I truly want you to LOVE your images, so I take careful consideration before each step!
Do you offer prints, albums, or other ways to display my photos?
I don't currently, but I'm happy to help you through the process of printing and displaying!
